Description

Originating in northeastern Namibia, on the south bank of the Okavango River, Kavango baskets are traditionally woven by women for agricultural use. They are made from the leaves, bark and roots of the Hyphaene petersiana (or “mikalani”) palm. The color palette (mainly black, brown, terracotta, lilac, pink) is obtained naturally.
The quality and fineness of the weaving and the infinite variations of colors and patterns make each basket unique.
