Telephone wire basket

The art of basketry designed for a contemporary material

Contemporary decorative objects honoring African traditions and South African craftsmanship, wire baskets are the result of the delicate braiding of falling telephone wires and copper wires.

A form of craftsmanship marking the transition between the use of traditional materials (palm leaves, dried herbs …) and industrial ones, with the development of urbanization, the weaving of the telephone wire echoes an ancestral know-how Zulu, whose tribe still represents 20% of the South African population.

AS’ART’s collection of wire baskets expresses the sumptuousness of the Zulus’ work, in a variation of vibrant and sober colors, an infinity of variations of patterns and sizes. Each season, the AS’ART team selects new colors to enrich the collection of new models.
